Breakaway Couplings (BAC)

and Emergency Release Couplings (ERC) ensure the safe transfer of liquid and gaseous fluids by cutting the fluid transfer loss-free at a defined applied force. The coupling is either activated by breakstuds (BAC) or by a mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic collar release mechanism (ERC).

This does not only guarantee the safety of employees, furthermore environmental pollution and costly damage of the loading systems is avoided and downtime is reduced.

 

Breakaway Couplings (BAC) and Emergency Release Couplings (ERC) can be used in almost every type of loading application, such as

  • Ship to ship loading
  • Ship to rig / shore loading
  • Rail car / road tanker loading
  • Cryogenic loading
  • Loading of hazardous chemicals
  • Hygienic / pharmaceutical loading

 

 

How It Works:

Two poppets lying on their sides like flaps lock each other, offering minimum head loss until the coupling parts.

 

 

The flaps are released and allow the bias springs to rotate through a controlled arc...

 

 

 

... until they have moved through 90°, where they snap onto their seats prior to the coupling fully parting.  

 

 

With 100% shut-off achieved the two halves of the coupling then part completely.
